What is Anxiety?

We all experience anxiety at different times because it’s the brain’s way of reacting to stress and letting you know about potential danger. With anxiety disorders, it’s not temporary, however. The anxiety doesn’t go away and often gets worse over time, to the point that it’s interfering with most or all aspects of your life.

Types of anxiety disorders include:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder: GAD includes persistent, excessive worry about different parts of your life lasting for six months or more. It might also include physical symptoms like muscle tension, problems concentrating, restlessness, and fatigue.
  • Panic disorder: The hallmark symptom of this anxiety disorder is recurrent, unexpected panic attacks. Symptoms can include sweating, trembling, heart palpitations, and a sense of impending doom.
  • Specific phobias: These might include an intense fear of a particular situation, activity, or object that is out of proportion to actual danger, leading to avoidance behaviors.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder: PTSD can develop after witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event. Symptoms of PTSD include flashbacks, severe anxiety, nightmares, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

While the exact causes of anxiety disorders aren’t entirely understood, factors that can contribute include:

  • Genetics, as anxiety disorders often run in families.
  •  Imbalances in neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine.
  • Environmental factors include significant life changes, traumatic events, or chronic stress.
  • Certain personality traits.
  • Medical conditions like thyroid problems or heart disease can cause or worsen symptoms of anxiety. Substance use can lead to anxiety disorders.

Anxiety can lead to addiction for several reasons. If you’re struggling with an anxiety disorder, you might use substances to self-medicate to manage symptoms. There’s temporary relief, but that can lead to addiction and dependence. Substances, following a brief respite from anxiety, can create a cycle where you increasingly rely on them to cope with emotions.

On the other hand, addiction can also lead to anxiety because of the following reasons:

  • Addiction changes brain chemistry and can disrupt neurotransmitter balance, leading to anxiety or worsening symptoms.
  • Going through withdrawal from addictive substances can cause anxiety and agitation, making it hard to stop using the substance.
  • The challenges that come with addiction, such as financial problems, relationship issues, and health concerns, can cause stress and anxiety, further perpetuating the addiction cycle.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse

The Relationship Between Anxiety & Addiction

When anxiety and addiction occur together, they’re referred to as either co-occurring disorders or dual diagnoses. Treating co-occurring disorders relies on a comprehensive, integrated approach addressing both conditions simultaneously.

Addressing only an anxiety disorder or addiction can leave underlying issues unresolved, elevating the risk of relapse. Effective treatment involves the identification and management of triggers that cause both anxiety and substance use, and combining therapies for anxiety and addiction counseling gives a more robust recovery framework.

Los Angeles Anxiety Treatment

We offer a comprehensive continuum of care at our center to ensure each person receives the appropriate level of treatment at every stage of their recovery journey. At every level, programs are designed to provide you with needed support and interventions for lasting addiction and anxiety recovery. Some of our levels of care include:

If you’re struggling with substance dependence as well as a medical detox may be the first part of your treatment plan. The goal of our detox programs is to help safely manage withdrawal symptoms as your body clears addictive substances. We can use medications and therapeutic interventions to improve your comfort.

If you’re seeking Los Angeles anxiety treatment or addiction treatment, a residential program is a structured, supportive environment. It allows you to focus exclusively on recovery. We conduct in-depth evaluations to create personalized treatment plans. From there, you may participate in various evidence-based and holistic therapies. The environment is serene and nurturing to facilitate healing and your well-being.

This is a crucial component of our Los Angeles anxiety treatment and addiction treatment programs. We recognize the significance of family dynamics in recovery. Family support services can include family therapy for addiction, education, and support groups.

This is designed to provide ongoing resources and support after the initial treatment phase is completed. Aftercare programs ensure clients have the tools needed to maintain recovery and prevent relapse. Aftercare could include continued counseling, relapse prevention planning, support group participation, and life skills training, depending on your treatment plan.

Testimonials From Our Clients

From the techs who became some of my best friends there to the therapist and each group facilitator. The quality was top notch. The chef took such good care of us and everything was delicious. The house and private rooms were really comfortable and peaceful. Everyone really cared and wanted each client to succeed. Thank you to everyone there and for helping me get my life back.

Great staff really make a difference. I've gone through other treatment centers before this one feels like home people really care and have your back even after you leave. Location is beautiful amenities are great and some of the best facilitators I've ever worked with . management and owners are fantastic and personable and will bend over backwards to make sure you have the best recovery possible

The best rehab facility I’ve ever went to my entire life the staff was absolutely incredible. And the facility is so beautiful it’s so relaxing and the food is so exquisite. The owners of the facility truly care about each client individually and are some of the best people I’ve ever met. Thank you for everything y’all did for me.

I never realized they had treatment centers, like this. Food is a ten, house is a ten, and the recovery is a ten. . The house is a mansion, no chores, cooking, cleaning or anything, just focus on recovery. The house is nothing compared to the staff, that run it. The most compassionate people, who understand this disease better than anyone I've been around.

While in detox, I had the most attentive care from the nurses and staff which meant the world to me. This was my first (and hopefully last) rehab experience and I don't think I could've asked for anything better. They have private chefs, excellent group sessions, top of the line doctors, therapists, and social workers. Yes, this is a place to get off of substances, but it's so much more... You can actually fix yourself here.
Dashe H.
From the walking into the doors to my final days in the facility, all of my needs were not only met but exceeded. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and caring. Most of which are in long term recovery, which is comforting as well. From therapy to extracurricular activities, I was always engaged and learning more about how to get my life back on track. Meals curated by the chef were above anything I could’ve expected. And the estate itself is breathtaking.
